Welcome to Immanuel…

Training people to love like Jesus to bring hope, healing and wholeness to the world.

Sunday services @ 10 AM

Sunday, September 21st

 Love as Movement
1 John 4:7-21 (MSG)

In a divided world, love in the way of Jesus is not always easy to define, especially when his followers rigorously disagree. Is love simply avoiding harm? Finding a third way? How do we tell the difference between love framed as self-denial versus self-betrayal? The early church also faced tribalism, yet what endured was a movement of love stronger than every threat. This Sunday we’ll explore what set the Jesus movement apart and how we can stay rooted in his love when conflict surrounds us.
The earliest Christians discovered a love strong enough to outlast every threat—can we?
~ Pastor Lea

Questions to ponder before or after Sunday, on your own, or with others:

  1. How would you define love today? Be specific, what does love look like in the workplace, at home, amongst friends, in public?

  2. Where do you think you first learned love requires self-betrayal, how is self-denial different?

  3. What might Jesus want for us when we are called enemies by other Christians?

  4. Is there an invitation of Jesus to align your heart with his way in the coming week?

God is in the business of transforming — recreating, rebuilding, and renewing all kinds of things: lives, friendships, marriages, organizations, cities, tribes, and nations. He invites us to participate with him in this. He calls it “following him." We call it our mission.

Worship at Immanuel

Worship at Immanuel is a time for our community to gather together to bring praise to God, to share our lives and stories with each other, and to hear what God has to say to us through the Bible. Our hope is that worship mirrors our relationship with God, and so gives us opportunity as a community to pray, sing, reflect, lament, offer, listen, and respond to the challenges of the Bible. Through the Holy Spirit, we pray that our worship will transform our lives so that we grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ our Saviour.
